I just received notice of your web site, and did log on
to the guest log. I just wanted to personally thank you for the
work you do on this page. On one of the pages Tom Aseltine as
about changes made to submarines because of the Thresher.
I was a member of the commissioning crew of the USS Flasher (the sister ship of the Thresher) when the Thresher went down. Construction was stopped on Flasher, she was cut in half, and a 12 foot section was added to the overall length. This additional space was need to provide for the Emergency Blow system that was added to all new submarines. My understanding is that when Flasher was commissioned, she was the only submarine authorized to operate at test depth. I hope this information is helpful. |
