Subject: Earnest Wareham

One of the Diodon crewmembers, Earnest Wareham, is bad shape with Alzheimer's Disease. I just talked to his wife and tried to talk to him but he didn't have the foggiest idea who I was. It is so sad to see someone that way. Earnest is 73, he was EN-1 (SS) when I reported aboard USS Diodon on New Years Day, 1958. I was his oilier in the after engine room until I made EN-3. What little I learned about subs and engines I learned from Ernie and a lot of you guys.

 

I just wanted to ask you to keep Ernie and Lue in your prayers. We will all go some way one of these days but we can't let our brothers and shipmates go alone.
