Diodon Shipmates,
Just finished reading the book entitled "Batfish, the Champion Submarine Killer
of WWII".
The attachment shows a picture of Jim Hingson, Diodon's first skipper while on
the Batfish.
Picture shows commissioning officers of USS Batfish (SS-310). Lt. J.M. Hingson
is shown 2nd from right.
Lt Hingson was 3rd officer on the Batfish for her first war patrol. The XO was transferred before the 2nd patrol because of a conflict with the CO, and Hingson fleeted up to XO.
Before the 3rd patrol, the CO was replaced due to emotional unstability and Hingson remained as XO for patrols 3, 4 and 5 under a new skipper.
After the 5th patrol Hingson was transferred to new construction in Groton, CT and assigned as CO of the USS Diodon (SS-349).
Thought you might be interested in the history.
