Jim,

My name is Monica Palmer Larsen, and my brother, David E. Palmer, MM2, served on the USS Diodon.  He was part of the Decommission Crew.  I was watching a program on the History Channel the other evening about U.S. Submarines, and it gave me the idea to do a search on the Internet for the Diodon.  That is how I came across your site.

I was so excited to see so much information on his ship!  Thank you for this site.

While exploring thru the site, I came across the picture of the Decommission Crew, and, yes, my brother is in the picture.  I tried to print out a copy of it, but it is too large.  My mother, who is 80 years old now, never got a picture of Dave's crew, and she always wanted one.  I was wondering if you had any tips on how to print it out or if somehow I could get a copy of it thru you?  I even tried printing it on legal size paper, but it is still too large.  I am not such an expert on the computer, as you can see.

Also, I have sent an e-mail to my brother, Dave, informing him of your website, as I am sure that he would love to see it, and maybe get in touch with some of his old Diodon buddies!  He resides in Montana now, with his wife and one step-son.  He is a traveling mechanic for the railroad, out of Wyoming, so he is only home on the weekends.

Thank you again,
Monica

Jim,

Thanks so much for the pictures of the Diodon Crew. I haven't had a lot of time to play with them yet, but I did save them. I tried to resize the one full pic of all of the crew, but I must have done something wrong, because it didn't print properly. I have Adobe Photo Deluxe, and was playing around with it, but haven't had a chance to go back and figure out what I did wrong. Oh, computers!!

They can be so tempermental! I'll get it figured out sooner or later. I have been enjoying reading all of the letters and memories that are posted on your website by the other crew members from the Diodon. My brother, David, took his vow of secrecy very seriously, and still doesn't tell us much of his time on the Diodon.

I do know that he hurt his wrist while on the Diodon. Said that they "hit bottom". So I have been eagerly reading all of the other's memories in hopes of discovering exactly what happened. I believe that Dave went on 2 Westpac trips. He graduated from high school in 1966, and did not join up right away. He did his boot camp in San Diego. He probably served on the Diodon around 1969-1970 or so. He is fourth from the right on the bottom row in the pic of the last crew.

Like I said, he is away all week from his home, then home on the weekends. I am going to try to call him this weekend to see if he got my e-mail with your website, because I know that he would really enjoy connecting with it.

Who knows, maybe he will try to catch your next reunion in Duluth!!

Thanks again Jim, and thanks to all of you who served to protect the freedoms that I enjoy today!!!

Monica
