Diodon shipmate? Yes -When/No Yes, 1961-1962

I remember joining the Navy to see the world, and winding up on the Diodon while she was in Drydock at Hunter's Point NS. Quite a trip, 38 miles from my hometown.

A lot is awfully fuzzy anymore, but I recall sleeping on the barge at HP. I can recall going to the World's Fair in Seattle and stopping off in Eureka on the way.

I really enjoyed myself while aboard and the crew was tops. I do recall a shipmate by the name of Roy, but I cannot recall his last name. I believe he was a FN at the time. I recall getting weary of being assigned mess cook duty at HP, so I decided to strike for CS3.

I should not have done that. I made my rate, and it got me transferred to another boat, which shall remain nameless, which I hated from the minute I set foot aboard until I finally left her.
