Jim,

I was in the Submarine Service in early l95O's on the USS Sterlet, USS Diodon and the USS Scabbardfish.. My DD214 provides only specifics as to date of entry and discharge from the Navy. I would like to obtain complete information as to dates of entry and exit from schools, shore duty stations and sea duty stations, etc. In fact, a complete as possible record of my Naval Duty.

I have sent off to St. Louis to the Records Center there, on an official form I got from Submarinesailor.com but I am told that they will take months and months and that even then I will not receive the information wanted. Do you know of where I could phone or write to get this information. Surely the Bureau Of Naval Personnel has this information on everybody somewhere.

Can you help. I would much appreciate it.  As for reasons. One is just curiousity but other is I would like to provide this information for use in Crewlists of the Submarines I was on listed on the Web.

Thanks. Sody1@cs.com

Jim,

My full name is James A. Hatfield, of 8O4O Wolftever Drive just outside of Chattanooga, Tenn. on what they call Chickamauga Lake, manmade in the late 3O's.

I am just a few miles from where I lived during high school and from where I left for the Navy in l948.  What did the symbols at the end of your last E mean, probby Goodby and something else. We probby ought to say Rig For Dive or Surface, Surface, Surface or Oogah, OOgah, Oogah,

I loved the submarines but I wish that just for one time out of the hundreds I heard "Mind Your Helm, Sailor"(not during a real War Patrol, just maneuvers because I was not ever a smartass)I could have answered, "Mind Your F------Bridge, Captain", but of course no one has ever done so I bet, but I also bet that I am not the only one that has wanted to do it.Station The Maneuvering Watch, seeya.
