Hi Don,
One more story, Cooper was going home to New York on leave, he went to North Island to see if he could get a hop. This pilot came by and ask him if he wanted to fly in this two seat jet of some kind. Cooper said yes so the pilot ask him if he had ever worn a oxygen mask, Cooper said no but I have worn a mumson lung. The pilot said that is the same thing, come on. This pilot took him to some place in Texas, there he got on a private plane that belonged to a pilot who flew him to some place in Oklahoma. From there he got on a C-130 for a hop to some where in New York. I think he was about three days getting home.

Remember Cooper's glasses, he didn't wear glasses but had a pair of black frames, no lenses, that he wore on the WesPac tour in '58.

Jim,

This is Charles E. Cooper FN (SS), this is looking forward in the after engine room. Notice he has on glasses, he didn't wear glasses, I think these were mine. Charles had a pair of black plastic frames with no lenses that he wore for most of the 1958-59 WestPac tour. This was taken in 1959.
