Diodon shipmate? Yes -When/No

1966 - 1969 Arrived RMSN, left RM2(SS) for COMSUBPAC. Made E6, then my wife said that was enough... Pat Gavaghn nicknamed me "Ding". Some shipmates were pissed because I never had to mess cook... we only had 3 radiomen counting Chief Looney until Pat finally came.

Wish I could remember more names... I do know that we had a hell of a good crew. Yes, that '67 WesPac was a hum dinger! My saddest memory was that the XO had the conn when we hit that sea mount, and it's my understanding he took the brunt of the disciplinary action. Can't recall his name, but what a great guy!

Anyone remember when we had to stay outside SD1 after a 2 or 3 weeker because a 45 couldn't be located? Or how about that trip to Catalina?

On that same trip, we snuck into Long Beach harbor undetected... I think our supply officer... name escapes me... stole the bell off the reserve pier we tied up to. He was a character... held a masters degree in chemical engineering and was our supply officer! Yes, we had a fine crew... I've seen a few folks since then... saw Brownie once downtown San Diego shortly after I got out in late 1970. Think I saw the COB at the postoffice, too.
