LCDR C.F. Wahl relieved LCDR
L.O. SMITE on 21 March 1959 as commanding officer. Throughout the spring and summer DIODON operated in the San Diego Area participating in PHIBLEX 59 and in several special projects. In addition, DIODON visited Wilmington, California on Armed Forces Day 23 May 1959 and spent one week at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard in June.
On 2 September 1959 she again entered the San Francisco Naval Shipyard for a routine overhaul. During the yard
overhall at Hunters Point in 59 the sonar room was expanded on the port side of
FTR. The torpedo skids on the port side were shortened to allow the expansion. |

Boothe. I do get a lot of pleasure out of websites of ships that I served on. Diodon was my first boat and the last site to hit the net.
Thanks very much for devoting the time to this site. Perhaps we can find many old shipmates. I have many fond memories of the Old Girl. Sea stories a bunch, if I can find the time.
