LCDR L.O. Smith relieved LCDR Hannifin as commanding officer on 11 April 1957 in Subic Bay.

DIODON departed Subic Bay for San Diego on 18 April 1957, proceeding via Brisbane' Australia, for the Coral Sea Celebration and Pearl Harbor, T.H., arriving in San Diego 31 May 1957.
