USS Diodon (SS-349) History

1948 (provided by Don Remily, EM2(SS))

DIODON returned to San Diego in March 1948, where she resumed local training operations. In June of that year LCDR C.E. BELL, Jr., USN, relieved CDR Van Buskirk as commanding officer.

That same June, 1948, DIODON was ordered to Alaska, where she operated until late July. Upon completion of her second Arctic cruise DIODON sailed for Pearl Harbor via Adak in the Aleutian Islands.

DIODON rendered services in the Pearl Harbor area until the middle of August and then returned to San Diego to resume normal peacetime training exercises.
