S. D.-Based Subs readied for test in Arctic Waters
Etlectiveness of submarine In Arctic waters will be tested by U. S. Navy craft late this summer, it was learned today, as two San Diego-based submarines, the Cusk and Diodon, were readied to sail for the Aleutians Tuesday.
They will meet the Blackfin and Trumpet at Kiska. The subs will enter the Arctic Ocean on Aug. 1, 1946.
A fifth member of the sub pack in the "Operation Iceberg," the Becuna, is conducting reconnaissance cruises in the area.
Skipper of the Diodon is Comdr. B. R. Van Buskirk, who I lives with his wife and daughter at 3629 Georgia Street. Skipper of the Cusk is Comdr. Paul E. Summers, 1533 Pendleton Raad, Coronado.
