Hello Jim,

I recently learned that Ed Ritzhaupt EN1-SS passed away on 7-18-03 Ed served aboard U.S.S. Diodon in the mid 60's , He also served on U.S.S. Queenfish and U.S.S. Archerfish and info can be found on their web sites . Thanks again for your wonderful web site.

I believe Ed Ritzhaupt EN1-SS Left the Diodon in late 1966, and advanced to ENC after leaving Diodon. George Sawyer can probably give you some info on Ed's naval service after Diodon.

Hi Jim,

Ritz gave me my first crow when I made 3rd class. Toward the end of the Vietmam run he dropped into forward eng. rm. for a long talk. He told me he was leaving the boat at the end of patrol for shore duty in S.D. I don't remember if he left in Hong Kong or went on to Yoko with us.

Did not make the second patrol of WP. Shortly after return to S.D. we were tied up to tender one morning. A Navy tug boat came alongside and tied up near stern. Ritz. standing on the bow with one foot on the railing, in chiefs uniform. Came by to show me his new command. That's the last time I saw the big German, summer of 66.

DBF,
Sawyer
